Since the war began in Afghanistan in 2001, 437 servicemen and women have been killed in action and many more injured. This programme discusses with Derek the benefits of the MOD's 'Battle Back' programme, which is run mainly from the defences medical rehab centre at Hedley Court, that looks to help those injured personnel recover.

Derek Derenalagi, of 2nd Battalion the Mercian regiment, is evidence of the success of this programme as five years after he was declared dead in Afghanistan he stepped out into the Olympic stadium to a hero's welcome from 80,000 fans.

The incredible dedication, bravery and will power required to make this transformation is testament to the character of Derek. In this BBC interview Derek discusses how this journey was even possible.
